There Is A Place Called Hell And It Really Exists

Diversity Is Critical When Picking Members for Your Book Club

You love books, you love the experience of reading, and you want to share and discuss books with others. The criteria for selecting others to join you should be based on these things alone. I implore you to try to forget about gender, age or background, and focus on the love of reading.

First, all the members won't be your friends and in my opinion shouldn't be your friends. What I mean by this is that a gathering of friends will discuss everything from relationships to kids to dinner, to work. Remember, you're putting this group together with a very specific purpose; to read and discuss specific books. This might sounds strange but if all the members are your current friends, you'll likely end up discussing anything but the book. Trust me, a few acquaintances or even strangers will result in a more dynamic and enjoyable group.

Even though the members might not all start as friends, you share a common passion and you may and probably will eventually become friends. The world is filled with groups of people who share nothing but a common passion for something. Use this as an opportunity to reach out and include new people into your world.

Second, think diversity. The most dynamic discussion groups I've attended have both male and female members from diverse walks of life. Women make up the majority of fiction readers so statistically your group will be mostly or completely comprised of women. Still, I encourage you to try to get at least one male club member. In almost every discussion they will bring a very different and welcome insight to characters and actions.

For example, in a recent book club meeting I asked the question, who's the main character, Rick, the supposed hero, or Kay Summers, the heroine. Kay was in the story from the first page of the first chapter while Rick came in about a third the way through the book. Most of the women answered Kay, while all the male readers said it was Rick. This single question has occupied as much as half a meeting and the resulting conversation was amazing. The different perspective is enlightening and thought provoking.

Also, don't be afraid of younger or older members. They too will have a unique perspective and most likely pick up on things you miss.

Reading isn't age dependent, gender specific, expensive or hard. People from all industries, socioeconomic background and education levels read and enjoy talking about reading. I can practically guarantee that the more diversity you include in your groups makeup, the more you'll get out of it.

Book clubs have been instrumental in the success of my first novel, End of Grace, Now I'm going to try to give something back. I hope you enjoy this series of articles on how to form and run your own book club.

K. Thomas Murphy, novelist.

Book clubs have been huge supporters of my book, End of Grace, and I've learned a lot by visiting them. Obviously as a writer, I love readers. I try to give them something in my books, but in this case I thought I'd take a detour and give them something a little more. A series of articles on forming and running book clubs.

Summary of the book: hacking of the stupid rules of work-break for results of the wise men by Bill Jensen and Josh Klein

In the enterprise, infrastructure is equal to money. Internationally, need a flexible infrastructure to manage growth. That said, when the centralized infrastructure, the company turns into bureaucracy and slow response becomes sluggish. Piracy of work looks at these problems from the point of view of workers and describes things you can do for your work by work: get smart.

Why is this important to me?

I am not this summary to lose your time. It is my vision to provide concise steps you can take now to achieve your business goals. Most of the companies now trust their suppliers and customers more than their employees. It's a real problem because the brilliant results require teamwork and you can't have a team, if there is no confidence. Companies because the transparency and centralizing similar to command and control systems. This is not a bad thing, until it must be a man selling 2 hours to enter an order or if the company blocks Facebook, twitter and LinkedIn. Stupid actions such as this results to kill.

The results are the name of the game. If you don't get results now, you are dead. The hub and spoke to the business model is not a bad model long rays of autonomy to offer customers and are not bound by the bureaucracy.

Piracy of work is divided into four sections. For the sake of time, I will highlight a point of each section.

1 Commitment team members - a paragraph summarizes the entire book and separates the large enterprises are crappy. Committed team members are four times more productive and more cost-effective than disengaged team members. This statistic if worn on can transform any business.

2 Infrastructure slave - I understand the need for procedures and infrastructure because you can not evolve without it. That said, I know that large companies with ridiculous rules and procedures that handcuffing employees kill creative mind in the end. Piracy of work is to work around these ridiculous rules and procedures. A simple example would be a computer file transfer access to another blocking. People today can have access to everything outside their work from their phone. Stupid policy in place to limit the freedom of creation for the illusion of safety is bad policy.

3 Three Types of Hackers-Black Hacks are those that steal, to cheat and create chaos. The people who have given a bad name of piracy. This book advocates not black hacks. Grey and white hacks Hacks are what are needed to do the job more effectively. These types of hacks are simply circumvent that save a tremendous amount of time and allow workers to use their freedom of creation for the loyalty of customers and profits.

4 Clarity - this is a big problem. Look at the stats: one, three of the top five losses of time all relate to communication. Two, the information in companies double all the days. Three, once every three minutes, the average inhabitant cube accept an interruption and shifts its focus, consuming 28% of the day. Creation of clarity and simple communication and information sharing networks can remedy this.

Piracy is that every business leader should read a good book. Personally, I think that if we could eliminate lost time on stupid procedures, we could create an additional economy the size of Texas.

I hope that you have found this useful summary. The key to any new idea is to work into your daily routine, until it becomes habit. Form of habits within 21 days. One thing, that you can draw from this book is "what is going to go major works". Ask this question or yourself and your team will begin to shine light on procedural crap that obstructs the creativity of all employees of the company.

Earthing Book

Just came across this book while surfing the internet randomly for environment products. First I smiled to myself, looking at the hyped title. Then decided to see what it was all about. Since, the book cost only $13, I decided to give it a try.

The first few pages were as usual. I thought it is another fitness product manual boasting about their natural therapy. But, then the author caught my attention. I just wondered when the last time I wandered barefoot. It was in that summer camp before three or four years. My foot is constantly locked in plastic or leather.

God knows it will sue me for suffocating it always, if it had a chance. But, it does remind me that I am not taking proper care of it now and then. Sore foot, patched nails, unexpected swelling in the fingers everything occurs now and then. I even went to the extent of the taking a master check up to see whether the blood glucose level in my body was the reason for the swelling. But, never gave a thought about wandering in the garden. This book was like a real eye opener for me.

My parents living the suburbs work in the field for hours. They never tend to have any specific problems with their feet, except for normal age related weakness. Leaving alone the health benefits, I do miss the chilly feeling in the center of the toe, which spread to our forehead, when we take a morning walk barefoot.

Thanks to Clinton Ober for writing Earthing.
The authors of the book had made it quite interesting and engaging to read. I suggested it to a few of my friends and we started taking morning walks in our garden, barefoot. The climate co-operated with us. I really feel relaxed and healthier nowadays. As for the book it gives lot of information about the electric energy in the earth which enters our body when we walk barefoot.

The only minus point of the book is its summary like articles. A professional writer would have made it much more interesting to read. I don't believe much in the products suggested as well. I am yet to try them. But, I do agree with the author's view of Earthing. The connection between the human beings and the earth is blocked through various plastic shoes and soles. We will feel happier if we reconnect. Don't miss the book if you are interested in alternative ideas.

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay: By Michael Chabon - A Review

"Houdini meets Two-Guys-in-a-Garret" could be a suitable subtitle for this novel which follows the heyday of the comic book industry in America.

Joe Kavalier is the tortured escape artist, a brilliant cartoon illustrator, who has studied magic and Houdini in his native Czechoslovakia, and who escapes to New York via a circuitous route in a coffin carrying the Prague Golem. Sam Clay is his New Yorker cousin who also worships Houdini and writes fantastic scripts and pulp novels. Put these two together and they come up with a series of comic books that rival the established superheroes of the day: Superman, Captain America, Batman et al.

Kavalier impotently fights the Nazis through his superheroes and dreams of helping his family escape the concentration camps to America, while Clay is trying hard to cover up his latent homosexuality. Both are trapped in metaphoric coffins, while their alter-ego hero, The Escapist, with his Hitler-bashing escapades, becomes a hit and makes them rich in the New World, and makes their unscrupulous bosses even richer.

The theme of entrapment and escape runs through the novel: Kavalier's escape from Prague, his enslavement in an observation station in the Antarctic in the company of dead crew and dogs, his later forced hiding inside the Empire State Building as he feverishly works on his new line of comic books, his desire to escape again by jumping off the said building. Clay too has his share entrapment: his sexual orientation, the marriage he falls into out of duty and as an escape from homosexuality, the dead-end jobs at various publishing houses after the magic of Kavalier & Clay has run out, the public inquisition into his sexual preferences for creating his superheroes with young male wards (even Batman and Robin are not spared here). In the end, the love of a good woman and her son conquers all, our two heroes find their niche, and there is a hint of the triumphant reincarnation of Kavalier & Clay.

I liked several aspects of this novel: the snippy and witty dialogue, the creativity of the young artists locked in a garret coming up with amazing storyboards, their self-deprecating humour, "I didn't know they were making detectives out of Jews," the footnotes in various sections which read like factoids and lend a sense reality to this work of fiction. There are bold extensions into the real world as well, when the legal wrangling of real-life competitors in the comic book industry is brought into the mix, and when the author comments on the personal grooming of Gala Dali or observes that Orson Welles smells like Dolores Del Rio - I guess one is allowed to take license with dead people!

What I did not like was the elaborate set-ups, the stories within stories that are "told" by a rather didactic and pompous omniscient narrator to bring us up to speed on what had taken place during a time gap. The prose is clunky and littered with heavy doses of information on the history and mechanics of the comic book industry. Much of this could have been cut out to create a tighter novel. The author himself sums up this vilified art form (which has re-emerged as the more dignified "graphic novel today) as "the inspirations and lucubrations of five hundred aging boys dreaming as hard as they could for fifteen years, transfiguring their insecurities and delusions, their wishes and their doubts, their public educations and their sexual perversions, into something that only the most purblind of societies would have denied the status of art" - need he have said more?

Excesses and digressions notwithstanding, I liked the story. This is story-telling at its peak; and in the end, great novelists are great story tellers.

Shane Joseph is the author of three novels and a collection of short stories. His work After the Flood won the best futuristic/fantasy novel award at the Canadian Christian Writing Awards in 2010. His short fiction has appeared in international literary journals and anthologies. His latest novel The Ulysses Man has just been released. For details see http://www.shanejoseph.com/

A perfect square written by Vannetta Chapman

An excellent history including the Amish and English as they mix in the mystery, love, religion and found their social and differences on how to mix all these all possible areas. I have read a few Amish stories since last year and I enjoyed of all, perhaps because of the peaceful life, but especially private, the Amish live. This story takes place in Shipshewana, Indiana, a city that is factual, but the characters are fictitious, they represent a cross-section of an Amish-English community where the English in General come from the community Amish for primarily commercial purposes and thus mix possible. A marriage is coming soon to join Esther and Tobias in marriage and Esther, with his friend, Deborah and her two children are appeared in their buggy pulled by horses through the region taking in the landscape so well described, all the time to discuss many of the details of the marriage. Their topic of conversation abruptly changed when they found a girl floating dead in the book of the property owned by Tobias and his cousin, Reuben. Something told them to stop their journey and get out and stretch all by observing the wonderful nature in the region.

The news of the dead girl got to city asking the police to come to the pond and study. Women who found the body left in the same position so that the police could take from there. Another person, Trent, a photographer for the local press, has also learned the news, and of course, he had to rush to the scene. Callie, Englisher, had tasks on the shop cover quilt of Daisy in the city and it was a gathering place local for women. The new spread. The police arrested Reuben when they found evidence that causes it and Rueben did not mean anything on the overall situation. He was in prison until the hearings could be heroes. This enraged the people they know kind of Rueben kill not something or someone, but the police had no choice since Reuben would do nothing to help. When an old man in a nearby city search for her missing daughter, the police and the population of Shipshewana began to connect to their daughter dead in this mans research.

This sets the history so that you can enjoy. The descriptive language is fantastic throughout the entire book. The characters are real, the Amish and English, as it is the mixture of their life together. You will meet many characters, Amish and English, and you will go in their lives. You will go through a marriage Amish, a trial in English or an Amish man, for evidence, hunting hunt for some necessary for trial, learn the details or a tornado that crossed this years before area, use your judgment to marry with that and enjoy the best character in the entire book, Max, yellow Labrador of Callie. Towards the end of the book, you will share in a brutal cold storm enjoy this wonderful story research. Of course, I have!

Book Summary - That Used to Be Us - By Thomas L Friedman and Michael Mandelbaum

Thomas Friedman is a NY Times bestselling author. He wrote The World is Flat and Hot, Flat and Crowded which are excellent books. This book is a must read for anybody who cares about our country. It outlines the problems and discusses the methods for getting us back on track as a world leading innovative nation.

Why is this important to me? I ask this question as if I am sitting in your shoes. This book in my humble opinion is a must read. The lackadaisical nature of the masses along with the political gridlock is paralyzing the nation and that affects all of us. It makes no sense for China to have better rail systems than us, and Singapore having better airports than us. And we just learned that China now has the fastest supercomputer on Earth - that used to be us. President Obama - 11/3/2010 Thomas and Michael outline the significant problems and some of the positive energy that still existing in the U.S. For the sake of time, I will summarize each of the 5 parts. The big four challenges we face in the U.S. are: how to adapt to Globalization, how to adjust to the IT revolution, how to cope with huge budget deficits because of growing government and how to manage in a world of rising energy demands and climate change.

1. The Diagnosis - If you see something, say something. Humans have a unique way of adapting to the environment. Unfortunately, we adapt to bad things and start to accept them as normal. The authors profile a story where it has taken over 6 months to fix two escalators with 21 steps on each in the New York Subway station. The politics, red tape and bureaucracy have basically killed the project. Yet in China, they can build a world class convention center in 32 weeks. The scary part of all of this is that - "People have gotten used to it." Pretty soon we get numb to really stupid things and start accepting the red tape provided by people who get paid regardless. This is a very scary habit to fall into because the gap between the U.S. and the rest of the world is widening and we are falling farther behind. The infrastructure of the country is falling apart. A personal example - our building is located in Southfield Michigan and we pay $50K a year in property taxes. The street in front of our building will destroy the front end of your car if you go faster than 20 miles per hour because the road is so screwed up.

2. The Education Challenge - This is no secret. We are funding education with investment dollars and it is not effective. We can fist fight all day on who is responsible but the point is that the family has to take a proactive approach to education or kids will die on the vine. The key learning requirements are critical thinking, collaboration and effective oral and written communication. There is another major problem in that kids need to be accountable and work ethic has to be established at a young age. The Chinese and Indians out work us in aggregate. They are pushed by their parents to succeed. Success in the U.S. has basically made the country lazy. This is similar to a championship boxer who is no longer hungry and does not work hard to stay champion. The authors point out a quote from a business man saying he is in the business of killing jobs. He is absolutely correct. Basically we have to innovate and automate routine tasks. This means that software and intellectual property will take the place of mundane work. This is continuing to happen and why critical thinking, problem solving and sharp skills are required from our education system. According to Wikipedia, the U.S. rank 17th in the world for education yet the budget is over $900 Billion annually. The execution and oversight to this spending is broken.

3. The War on Math and Science - Arithmetic is not an opinion - Italian Proverb. The war on Math is simple - nobody in Government can add. We are borrowing money from China to go to war with Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya. Our deficient spending is just that and the investment is non-existent. In the 1960's president Kennedy created a goal to be on the Moon in 10 years. What is the goal today? To provide for people and make sure they don't have to work but still get their checks? Also, how could we let our banks leverage our future with derivatives and nobody in management have an idea of what happened? Worse than that, these executive got paid hundreds of millions of dollars collectively while accepting bailouts. This is War on Math and common sense. Like we stated earlier, Americans have gotten Used to it. The war on physics has to do with climate change and energy. The growth of energy demand and our lack of real investment in alternatives need to change. Lobbyists and special interest groups prevent this.

4. Political Failure - I am not going to blame Democrats or Republicans. I will blame both for the grid lock and selfish nature of polls, money and re-election. Our government in the last three years has gone into special session to make sure that the "Economy" does not self-destruct. Think about this for a minute. President Obama had to raise the debt ceiling otherwise the effects on the economy would have been Catastrophic. Those are his words. Is anybody listening? I guess we are just "used to it."

5. Rediscovering America - The good news is that for every problem yields great opportunity to solve it. Embracing the problems and hitting them head on is the cornerstone of our history. The small business man who transforms the world from his garage - that all happens here. This needs to be nurtured and the problems need to be fixed from the bottom up. Waiting for big brother to fix our issues is the kiss of death. Don't let Dumb and Dumber dictate your future. This is how our political system is working and we are going to get run over by other nations if we don't take responsibility for ourselves. I will stop preaching. This is a good book and will open your eyes to the problems. Remember that news today is not news but opinion. Bill Maher and Rush Limbaugh are paid for ratings. I hope you have found this short summary useful. The key to any new idea is to work it into your daily routine until it becomes habit. Habits form in as little as 21 days. One thing you can take away from this book is the U.S needs leaders. This is still the greatest country in the world because we are free. This means we need to become leaders and lead from the bottom up. We need to take responsibility for continuous learning and innovation.

Books turning in films a positive or negative thing?

Many books that films are ongoing is an option and lately. But with the growing number of films, books, quality is absent? Should we be happy or nervous on the subject to see the books which are films on the big screen?

Usually, it is a case by case basis, but most of the time there are a few different things that make books like the films a good or a bad thing.

The first positive thing is undoubtedly see the history and the world to life. Especially when you talk about a book that is magical and a lot of elements of fantasy to it, sometimes that see the world to come to life can be an amazing experience. But such a wonderful concept also comes with significant risks. Perhaps the budget left much to be desired and the sets and effects are not all that they might be. This can really ruin a history, and unfortunately the visuals that film offer becomes rooted when you read the book once more.

Another thing that is really exciting to see books such as films is learning to see the characters come to life before we have imagined in the reading of our eyes. It can be really cool to see the new and established players to realize our favorite characters. But again, if a player just does not match the role physically and skill level is, and then films the books may be more of a disappointment than a positive experience.

The most wonderful thing books hitting the big screen is that it tends to have that effect on the masses, people read books which are films because they enjoyed drawing film. Many times that these people are not normally drives and this is certainly a good thing any time something gets people reading and exercise their minds. The negative effect only that this has on the whole, it is that the offer and demand for books should be with. Therefore, we tend to see an increase of books which are cranked too quickly and end up by being of low quality and copies of the storylines or other books.

Anything, the beautiful thing to be witness to the books like the films is that it has more exposure for the book, the author and reading in General. If it's a story that we love, it is pleasant when many people know and you can talk to them! But it can also be a little annoying when fans of the ramp of film to fans of the book and asked to be the greatest fans, when in reality, the greatest fans are those that increased exposure of the book itself at this course is option as a film.

If you are a fan of books like the films or not is something we decide on our own. But be that as it may, the incredible world of films, books became more popular each day and I hope that something that will only increase the quality to the satisfaction of the book lovers and for video enthusiasts.

Are you a fan of films, books? Then discover the books like movies blog for the latest news about new films and upcoming based on books!

Stephen King: Books of the master of horror and Suspense

Humans do all they can to avoid being in situations of fear, suspense, and yet humans built a publication several million and the industry of entertainment based entirely on fear and suspense. Each year (and this happens not only at Halloween), Hollywood offers a list of novels thriller suspense, horror, mysteries and other films between the two. Libraries devote entire walls and shelves to the mystique and the C17.

If you would look at carefully, you would always include present among these bars is a book by Stephen King. Just that it is horror, suspense, and "the King" that got people hooked up? Even in video stores, media reserved for horror films contain at least a film of a book by Stephen King adaptation. His writing style is it? His dry humor, sometimes? Witty dialogues and the banters? The characters easily identify and relate, that are placed ordinary people in extraordinary situations Hey? His sincere story, straight to the point? Or is this idea - the crazy way, it transforms ordinary things into something macabre and suspected - that hold readers in its power of awareness, to frighten, to terrify and?

Portfolio of horror of the King

Stephen King career spans forty years covering many works since the early stories, he wrote as a young person to grow in Maine for her work and recent publications in the second decade of the 2000's.

To date, the author Stephen King has written 70 books, 49 are os-cooling novels; seven are terrifying stories under the pseudonym of Richard Bachman; five of the non-fiction works; and nine collections of short scary stories. His works have been adapted to television, the cinema and comics. Even the first Stephen King film adaptations books dating back to the ' of the 1970s and ' 80 s get in the television series in the ' 1990s shorts or and the years 2000.

Due to his prolific writing and boundless imagination, King has been given many monikers from the "King of horror" to "master of Suspense". He has received numerous literary prizes for his contribution to literature: o. Henry Awards in 1996, Quill Awards in 2005, the National Foundation of book in 2003, a lifetime achievement award from the National Book Award in 2003. and the kind of suspense and horror in het bijzonder: Convention of world horror, World Fantasy Awards, science fiction and Fantasy Awards of America, Mystery Writers of America Awards, British Fantasy Society Awards, the Locus, the International Horror Guild Awards Award and many others.

His name continues to make the appointment or the body of awards in literature, records and books of Stephen King are still present in the annual Best-seller lists. Needless to say, it has established for himself a loyal readers who love his sharp prose, witty dialogues and a plot full of suspense and plot twists and the turns.

Legacy of horror Stephen King

As the film that director Alfred Hitchcock has left a legacy in making the horror and suspense movies, Stephen King made a huge influence in the writing of novels in the horror genre and suspense. One of the main features introduced in popular culture in General is the idea of transforming the ordinary into the unusual, the innocent into something very dangerous. He played with our expectation of what things and people are based only on what we perceive them. For example, in his classic novel misery, the principle is simple: a writer of horror was injured and taken to the trap in a snow storm in a small rural town. A woman has helped him and offered his house so he could retrieve pending help. The woman, age mature and still single, proved to be a big fan of his and had professed to be his "number one fan". History, if you don't know yet, twisted and spiral down into a dark abyss without changing the simple premise or an author made in a snowstorm with his fan number one.

That you can handle a little paranoia? Books of reading Stephen King now and experience what generations of readers encountered in their first reading tales of the King of horror.

Book Review: Resisting the Green Dragon

I first encountered the Green Dragon on a blog post by Publius Redux where he introduced it with: "Now, here is a novel analysis of the undercurrent of urgency and irrationality characteristic of climate doomsayers' prophecy. This explains the haunting familiarity of the preaching and proselytizing we have endured from the climate change fearmongers." Curious, I tracked down an article about Resisting the Green Dragon by Dr. James Wanliss, Associate Professor of Physics at Presbyterian College. Finding no religious or scientific arguments that could possibly address the issues in the article, I wrote a play about what the future might hold for Dr. Wanliss, Publius and their followers.Sometime later I received a critique of my play from Dr. Wanliss and subsequently offered to write a proper review if Dr. Wanliss would send me a copy, which he did. Dr. Wanliss said he wrote the book in part because he had been bullied by environmentalists. That is certainly a very bad thing, however replying in kind is usually not the correct response and revenge often hurts others than its intended victims. If you identify with environmentalism, mainstream religions, or believe we should be good stewards of the Earth, you may feel bullied while reading the book.

The book claims not "to provide scientific or economic answers" as that is done by "multiple excellent resources that appear in the endnotes." However those resources and end notes do not accurately represent the views of scientists, economists, or environmentalists - but are carefully picked from extreme positions, as are his examples. Dr. Wanliss gives examples of vegetarians, PETA members, Eco terrorists, environmental extremists, and someone who thinks men are "useless breathers" - and tries to claim they are representative of the Christian stewardship movement. They are not. Environmentalists may want you to make responsible choices, but that does not mean they want to "control how you live, eat, drive, and even the light you use to read by." Environmentalists may have a goal of achieving balance in nature and sustainability, but Dr. Wanliss claims sustainability places "human life directly in the crosshairs of violent men." And, are those violent men found in the Christian stewardship movement?

The book was published by the Cornwall Alliance which has chosen the Green Dragon as a symbol of their opposition to the growth of environmentalism in Christian churches. The Cornwall Alliance describes itself as a grassroots Christian movement. It does not disclose its funding sources but many paths to it come from corporations and fossil fuel interests and its message is certainly favorable to them. Dr. Wanliss says that he did not receive an advance from the Alliance and profits only from the royalties on the book. The Alliance has produced a series of videos based upon Resisting the Green Dragon, assailing its hold on the churches. There is little truth to much of the propaganda in the videos. They seem designed more to protect the profits of the fossil fuel companies than to protect the Earth, or the people who depend on the Earth for survival.

It became apparent in the early 1980s that carbon dioxide released by burning fossil fuels was causing changes in the environment that would impact mankind, particularly those in poor and indigenous societies who do not have the resources to adjust to the changing climate. Many churches have adopted statements encouraging environmentalism based upon good stewardship, some specifically mentioning the threat of greenhouse gases. For example, the denomination sponsoring the Presbyterian University where Dr. Wanliss teaches stated in 1989 and reaffirmed in 2008, its "serious concern that the global atmospheric warming trend (the greenhouse effect) represents one of the most serious global environmental challenges to the health, security, and stability of human life and natural ecosystems."

The Green Dragon on the dust cover of the book is a very ugly Dragon, but Dr. Wanliss may have misjudged what is in its heart. Though some mythical dragons were portrayed as evil, Draco in Dragonheart and Sapphira in Aragon imparted their ancient wisdom to mankind and helped them in the times of crisis. And it was the flying dragons in Avatar who helped the Na'vi drive out the greedy corporation destroying their planet and their homes for the sake of ore. Perhaps the Green Dragon is being vilified by the Cornwall Alliance so that we will not heed its message.

Although Dr. Wanliss is a physicist, there is very little climate physics in the book. He seems to have arrived at many of his opinions about climate science, not from peer-reviewed literature, but by films made by Al Gore and Martin Durkin, neither of which are scientists. Dr. Wanliss points out the errors in The Inconvenient Truth, and rejects it entirely. However, Al Gore received a Nobel Peace Prize for his environmental work and his movie won an Oscar. The movie also had its day in court in Dimmock v Secretary of State for Education, a suit which sought to prevent the educational use of An Inconvenient Truth in England. The court ruled that, though the film had some errors, it was substantially founded upon scientific research and fact and could be shown. A 2010 Stanford University poll of 1,372 climate scientists found that 97-98% of the climate researchers most actively publishing in climate science agree that global warming is occurring and man activities are the main factor. There is a preponderance of scientific evidence of global warming

Dr. Wanliss embraces MartinDurkin's movie, The Great Global Warming Swindle, though it is based upon bad science and fraud. How do I know that? Mr. Durkin gives the impression he is a geophysicist but his degrees are in medieval history and financial journalism. The movie distorts the work of some of the scientists that appear in it. For example, Dr. Friis-Christensen, said, "parts of the graph were made up of fabricated data that were presented as genuine." He should know as it was his research that was distorted to support claims that recent climate change was the result of solar activity. Also, Dr. Carl Wunsch points out that the movie uses his data but distorts it. Ihe ocean would have had to release more CO2 than they had absorbed, so impossible that he calls it fraud. The movie also distorts NASA's temperature record, something that can be easily checked. Comparing NASA's graph with the screen shot from the movie shows that Durkin redrew the graph to support his claim that most of today's global warming occurred before 1940.

A 2010 StanfordUniversity poll of 1,372 climate scientists found that 97-98% of the climate researchers most actively publishing in climate science agree that global warming is occurring and man activities are the main factor. Research shows that global warming is causing many undesirable changes in the Earth and that no natural factors are significantly responsible.

Dr. Wanliss does not seem aware of the principles of ecology or the interrelation among species, as he says: "There has been, in past decades, a cosmic shift towards a social climate that begins to favor the environment - polar bears, trees, and bugs - over human beings." Well, where would we be without the bears, trees, the environment, and umm... bugs? He thinks that "destruction of one species can enormously benefit many others" and that man had a right to hunt sperm whales to extinction if we needed the oil. However, he does not seem aware that many species depend on the nutrients that the whales distribute throughout the ocean. Passenger pigeons, once an important source of food, were hunted to extinction. And whooping cranes and buffaloes almost disappeared forever, but were saved from extinction by chance and a tremendous effort on the part of conservationists. Would we have missed them? The book tells the story about the Canary being used to test the safety of coal mines, using it to point out that some bird lover may have objected, putting the bird's safety above that of the miners. Ecologists now tell us that many species are beginning to disappear from the Earth and many more are threatened by global warming. Would we want our grandchildren to go into a coal mine where the Canaries are dying?

Economics: Cap and trade is considered to be the free market solutions to reducing carbon emissions. It may not be the best, but it will help and it appears to be the way the nations are heading. Dr. Wanliss argues against it because he thinks it will lead to the creation of a world government and because of its high cost. We all share the same atmosphere and it is necessary that all industrialized and developing countries cooperate, but that is not the same as establishing a world government. Dr. Wanliss claims the cost of cap and trade regulations would amount to an annual cost of "$120,000 for the average family of four". That value is unrealistically high - and it also ignores the cost of not acting. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that the cost of the cap-and-trade program by 2020 would average about $175 annually per household.

It is possible to estimate the cost of inaction on global warming. The Stern Report, using the results from formal economic models, estimates the overall costs and risks of climate change is equivalent to losing at least 5% of global GDP each year. And unaddressed, the cost could rise to 20% of GDP or more by 2050 - and increase the risk of an environmental catastrophe. Using 5% of the US GDP for 2010 would give an environmental cost of $727 billion. Reducing carbon emissions would also reduce particulates which the American Lung Association cites as the primary cause 38,000 heart attacks and premature deaths each year as well as 1.5 million cases of acute bronchitis and aggravated asthma - which they estimate has an economic cost of $281 billion. Those two add up to about $1.01 trillion annually, and that is just for theUnited States. And what cost was should we put on premature death?

Dr. Wanliss' view of the relationship between man, other species, and the Earth's resources is based upon the doctrine of Dominionism. He bases this belief upon his interpretation of Genesis 1:28 "And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth." From there, he uses a number of carefully selected Scriptures to argue how " the humans' filling and ruling of the Earth can release it from bondage." It is his view this will bring about the Second Coming which will render efforts to protect and sustain the planet useless.

But, is the Earth not growing full? There are now 7 billion people on the planet and at our present birthrate, the population will double again this century. And have we not established dominion over the Earth? We now have fish and game laws, catch limits, and international treaties to protect other species as our needs have grown until we threaten their existence? The caveat in Dr. Wanliss' argument is that the Second Coming will not occur until man has established Christian dominion. There are many religions on the Earth, and even among Christians, there are many different interpretations of the Scriptures. What he believes is necessary is very unlikely to happen in the next 50 years, and even if it did, there is no assurance that Dominionism is the true religion.

Those who argue for Christian stewardship think that dominion means "benevolent rule". Does it seem reasonable that God would make the heavens and the Earth and all the species, proclaim them good, and then give man a license to destroy them if he wished? And do some men have the right to seek dominion if by doing so they damage the lives and resources of other men? Dr. Wanliss makes a special point that dominion is not domination; however, men who wish to dominate and exploit the environment for profit will certainly find his arguments useful.

The book claims that the environmental movement is" dreadfully harmful to the environment and humans, particularly the poor" and at one point claims that environmentalists may be responsible for millions of deaths. It is most cynical and wrong to claim that environmentalists are somehow responsible for deaths and damage in the poorer countries of the world. Global warming is changing the environment and increasing the probability of severe weather events, particularly droughts. Last year's drought on the Horn of Africa led to widespread famine and many deaths among the poor. The people ofKashmir are concerned that the glaciers that feed their streams in the summer are receding - making less water available. The Sherpa of Tibet worry that their villages may be flooded by lakes that now form each summer from melting glaciers, held back by unstable ice dams.

The Inuit inGreenlandcannot use their traditional hunting grounds at the ice is too thin for their dog slipped to traverse. Those in theArcticare having to move their coastal villages to keep them from being eroded away by wave action of open seas, which used to be ice year-round. Their inland villages are threatened because the permafrost upon which they are built now becomes a quagmire in the summer. They are being forced to change a way of life that sustained them for centuries. While some may adapt, their way of life and culture will be destroyed, and many will likely end up among the poor and unemployed.

Dr. Wanliss says God has commanded us to fill the Earth and that we should let God decide how many children we shall have. But do not men and women have free will and the right to decide such things? Rnd, what happens when the earth is full? The Earth's population has just surpassed 7 billion people and, at our present birthrate, will reach 14 billion sometime in the latter part of the 21st century. The Earth is finite and evidence suggests that the carrying capacity of the Earth is somewhere between 10 and 12 billion. When a population exceeds the carrying capacity of its environment, there is usually a massive die off of the population. For us, this might mean the deaths of billions of people through starvation and wars over resources.

Dr. Wanless believes that man has a remarkable ability to reason, and that is certainly true. God has given us science so that we may understand nature by observation and reason. Scientific research shows that carbon dioxide is a pollutant that is damaging the Earth and will do so even more in the future. The EPA has determined that CO2 is an endangerment that may be regulated under the Clean Air Act, and the Supreme Court has upheld that ruling. Dr. Wanliss opposes action to correct the problem and thinks that when the Earth is full and Christian dominion is achieved, God will make our problems disappear. What if he is wrong? We will have a very full and a very hot, inhospitable Earth through our own ignorance, and not through God's will. The Green Dragon, though a mythical creature created by Dr. Wanliss, would be a good symbol for Prudence.

Dr. Wanliss is advising us to resist the Green Dragon based upon his religious views and personal philosophy. His book would certainly encourage some interesting discussions about the meaning of Hebrew words, the interpretation of scriptures, the meaning of free will, and the responsibility Christians have toward mankind, other species, and the Earth itself. Those discussions should occur among scientist, theologians, and philosophers who have the knowledge to defend their ideas. However, it seems wrong to use the power and respect that people have for ministers and Scripture to criticize Christians who believe in good stewardship. The Cornwall Alliance does just that, as resisting the Green Dragon aligns with profit motives. The only time Jesus showed anger in the Bible was when he drove the money changers from the Temple. How might Jesus feel about the Cornwall Alliance using Dr. Wanliss' book to bring their corporate interests into places of worship? Perhaps Dr. Wanliss should rethink whether he wishes for his book to be used in that way.

Recommended Readings

I would recommend reading an article titled "How to Use Multimedia for Business Marketing," written by Lauren Folino and Michelle V. Rafter. I enjoyed reading the article to a great extent because of the idea that multimedia is not only used for entertainment, but it can and should also be used to market yourself or your business/organization. Overall, the article discusses the idea that multimedia, such as mobile marketing, livecasting and podcasting, photo, video and file sharing, can spread the word about your company and help build brand awareness in a very unique and powerful way. This type of media has the potential to go viral quickly.

The next article that I have read and recommend you to read is called "Teaching Effectively with Multimedia" by Jessica E. Zimmer. This is all about why a teacher should use multimedia at its fullest potential in a classroom setting. She explains that students respond to information differently. Thus, it is an advantage as teachers to use many different formats and modes to teach the subject matter of a lesson. As a student myself, I completely agree with the article that teachers should use more than pure lecture itself to try to teach his or her students. Like many other students, I have a tendency to space out or get side-tracked when sitting in a classroom. However, if there is a lecture that incorporates graphics, video, or audio, I am less likely to do so.

Also, I am currently taking a course at my school that requires me to read a text book titled eMarketing: The Essential Guide to Online Marketing by Rob Stokes and the Minds of Quirk. One of the chapters I read was called Social Media (chapter 8). I would recommend individuals to look into either purchasing the book or finding a copy of the particular chapter online. The entire book is quite interesting and as the title depicts, it is all about online marketing. In the chapter called Social Media, it discusses the differences between traditional and social media, the fundamental concepts behind social media, teaches you how creating content and sharing content work together, and how to use the online community in eMarketing efforts.

The last recommended reading I would like to discuss is on a blog called Mastering Multimedia by Colin Mulvany. In particular, I found one blog post to be very interesting. The blog post is titled "Sequencing: The Foundation of Storytelling." Colin discusses that he is not happy with videos that he has recently seen online. He said that the videos lack the basic sequencing of video clips, which is a necessity in creating videos. Basically, the sequence is the foundation of all video storytelling. They compress time in a video story.

Reading groups are created by people who gather to share their opinions on books they have read. These groups can be as small as four friends to as large a classroom full of book lovers. All have some kind of structure. Usually, there is a leader and a set of rules for moderating the discussion. The leader guides the conversation and helps the group keep time and allow everyone a chance to speak. The leader may also have other duties. The group guidelines, meeting place and schedule will vary according to the group. The rewards of being in a reading club give members opportunity for socialization, exposure to others opinions and a lot more.

Books to Read After Harry Potter

The epic Harry Potter series came to an end, with The Deathly Hallows. These seven book series captivated the reading audience with 'magic' and gave rise to a new generation of book lovers. Therefore, the conclusion of the series left a void among the ardent Potter fans, all over the world, who still craves for more.

Fortunately, there are several admirable books that can prove to be the best choice to read after Harry Potter. We will be covering ten such books that are mystical, innovative and endearing. These fantasy based books are meant for the adults and children alike and though these books may or may not follow the theme or genre similar to 'Potter', they are definitely excellent and can easily engross the reading world.

The Last Unicorn written by Peter S. Beagle is a classic novel that depicts the journey of a Unicorn, an immortal wizard and a cat. This fantasy based book narrates their pursuit to find what happened to the unicorns. The underlying theme of the novel reflects love, delusion against realism, failure, compassion and destiny. The story is an amalgamation of myths and folklore just like the story of Harry Potter. The fantasy has an emotional twist when the characters of the book give up their belief in the supernatural or mythological creatures.

Many people draw similarities between His Dark Materials, which is a trilogy by Philip Pullman and Harry Potter. This particular book series involves intricate and adult themes which make it appropriate for the grown-up readers. These books are pleasurable as they leave impressions of magic comparable to Harry Potter. Pullman's books are ideal for reading after the Potter series.

The Lord of the Rings is another epic trilogy that has caught the interest of several Potter fans. J. R Tolkien drew many things from mythology and some of the characters of Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter have similar traits and features. Nevertheless, it is an interesting and gripping book which can surely capture the attention of Potter readers.

The Hobbit is another novel by Tolkien. It is a story that revolves around Bilbo Baggins - the hobbit and his adventures in Middle-Earth. In his perilous expedition, he comes across monsters and discovers inner bravery, strength etc. It is a fascinating and a must read book for Potter fans.

Susannah Clarke's Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrel is a novel based on secrecy, magic and marvel which makes the reading enjoyable. It is an excellent followup book after Harry Potter.

The Sparrow written by Mary Doria Russel is actually a science fiction however; it handles several themes that can earn earnest appreciation from Potter fans.

The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke portrays the life of two orphans who escapes to Venice and stumbles upon the mystifying Thief Lord. Though the Lord helps them, he also draws them into risky robberies. The story is about magic, mystery and bonding which reminds one of Harry Potter.

The Chronicles of Narnia are amusing books to read after Harry Potter. It is a fantasy series about the amazing kingdom of Narnia which spans across seven books. Narnia has loads of fantastic beasts like Harry Potter. Also, the passage to the world of Narnia is through a cupboard which reminds of platform 9 ?. The story of Narnia is enthralling and engrosses the readers successfully.

Homeland by R.A Salvatore reveals the Drow world which is underground, deceitful and is inhibited by Drizzt Do'Urden. Drizzt is unable to adjust in the Muggle world just like Harry. However, unlike Harry who gets admission at Hogwarts School, Drizzt is practically left alone as despite being a great warrior, he declines to slay other Drows, which is a part of his duty towards his family and society. Salvatore produces a very sinister world, but the readers share Drizzt's loneliness and discover optimism in his compassion and might.

Earthsea Trilogy written by Ursula K. LeGuin is renowned for her writing style more than the story. The Wizard of Earthsea trails Ged as he turn into a full fledge wizard. The remaining part of the series tracks his adventures as he gains power. Earthsea is a delight for fantasy book readers. The wizard world reminisce the magical world of Harry Potter.

To conclude, it is always a special treat to revisit the Harry Potter series and read it all over again and again.

This article is to bring a persons attention to what is available to read that are related to the Harry Potter series. There are web sites available that will show more books to read that relates to the same theme to be reviewed.

Four Gifts for Aria: Book Review

It happened in that August 2011, I needed to read an antique thriller. Searching, then I stumbled upon this beautifully illustrated cover, Four Gifts for Aria, Ebook written by Joshua Graham. Since, in my case I have learnt not to prejudge a book by its low price, I therefore latched onto it to satisfy my curiosity of the theme, that is, what gifts, by whom, and why? After reading, I was able to get the three answers. Below, I have tried to state them for your pleasure.

What gifts? On pages 13 and 14 of the book, Aria, a teenage girl, said she wanted a horse ride, a puppy, a sail and a dance with a prince.

Gifted by whom? If you followed from the above, then there appeared the next question, that is, who was she expecting them from? Pitiably, the task of bringing the gifts fell upon the shoulders of one stylishly funny sixteen-year-old boy called Nicholas. He really had much to bear. First, he needed to survive in Huntington Manor.

The narration began thus, "When first I arrived at Huntington Manor, I thought I was going to die...It wasn't until I ran into something that I lifted my eyes from the ground. Only, it wasn't something but someone...Please sir. Have you any bread or clear water...? I can do just about any chore. I wouldn't be askin' much-fare wages, a roof over my head, and some decent food."

Why the gifts? From the moment the author established Nicholas to the reader, the story blossomed expectedly and found a connection between the two most important characters, the hero and the protagonist. In this case, love, the thing that Aria has all along been denied. This was the premise for the gifts which helped in knowing that I was reading a romance-genre story.

Nicholas fell in love with Aria, daughter of Lord Huntington, who had first served her turn by giving Nicholas some sustenance twice a day. Understandably, his love for Aria became a sort of reciprocal obsession. Between them however, a sharp class-divide and antagonists await Nicholas.i Those were in the early chapters.

In later chapters, Nicholas would either die trying or, be able to get Aria on the altar of providing the gifts. Lord Huntington, Aria's father awaits Nicholas?"€even the man who had all along been magnanimous to house Nicholas. I don't envy him, really.

Just for purposes of saying that, I also read it with mindset of a writer, I remember coming across a slight narrative oversight, which states: "I... made a serious face..." But, in all the printed and digital books I have read, I have found one oversight or a typo.

Back to the gifts, all four of them impacted on the book's morals, sacrifice, which was easy to find while reading. Ironically, Aria ended up having an amended set of four gifts--one wrapped gift, a horse ride, a love, and a boat ride, where death befell her. In real life, such twisted expectations may happen.

The beauty of the book's noteworthy characterization and dialogue is that, like me, most readers might want to continue enjoying the piece without knowing the story had approached its end. In all, it ran over 35 pages. My favorite quote from this novel is, "The mind is its own place and in itself can make a Heaven of Hell, and a Hell of Heaven." I enjoyed every bit and almost got involved.

The Hunger Games Series - Overview and Review of the Plot

The Hunger Games Series is set in the post-apocalyptic Panem. In it lays 12 districts and the city of Capitol, which holds control over Panem. Annually, an event called the Hunger Games is held by the Capitol to commemorate the rebellion set by the 12 districts against them before. Two participants, called the 'tributes', from 12-18 years old are chosen from each district to join the Hunger Games where they will kill each other off until one remains. This televised event is a punishment set by the Capitol to the 12 districts.

The Hunger Games
The Hunger Games Series begins in the coal mining district of Panem, District 12. The story starts with the introduction of Katniss Everdeen, a girl from a poor family who illegally hunts for food to feed her family. During the Reaping, the event where tributes are chosen from each district, a boy from a medium-class family, Peeta Mellark, and Katniss' sister Primrose, were chosen. Katniss volunteered herself to save her sister. Katniss and Peeta, guided with their mentor, embarked on the dangerous competition.

Catching Fire
Continuing with the Hunger Games Series, Peeta and Katniss won together on 74th Hunger Games. The two went back home where President Snow visited Katniss telling her he's with her for making the suicide attempt with Peeta during the end of the game. The act allowed both of them to win and caused rebellion talks. Snow threatened to kill her family unless she proves to the public that the act is only because of her love for Peeta. Peeta and Katniss went on a victory tour across Panem where they visited the districts and discovered how serious Snow is against any plan of rebellion.

Returning home, an announcement was made for the Quarter Quell where 24 champions from previous games will compete again to kill each other. Katniss and Peeta competed in the games. By teaming up with other contenders, Katniss discovered how the arena works and destroyed it. Katniss was rescued by the rebels, informed of the existence of District 13 where she is being transported, learned about the Capitol's capture of Peeta and the total destruction of her home, District 12.

Mockingjay
As 'Mockingjay', the symbol of rebellion against the Capitol, Katniss was given the right to kill Snow. District 13 made attacks to the Capitol rescuing Peeta and others successfully. Brainwashed Peeta came back hating and trying to kill Katniss. An assault was made to Capitol and Snow was captured. Many people died during the assault, including Prim, Katniss' sister who's part of the rebel medical team. Katniss killed District 13's President Coin. Snow was killed during a riot. Katniss and Peeta, who recovered from the brainwash, returned to live in the reconstructed District 12. The Hunger Games Series ends with an epilogue by Katniss 15 years after the war, married to Peeta with two children.

The Magic of Making Up by TW Jackson

First of all, you may be wondering... what is "Magic of Making up"? It is an e-book that gives you tips and guides on how to make up with your ex, revive and strengthen your relationship. It is written by TW Jackson. It has been sold worldwide and a lot of people have found it very helpful. However, some people still believe that it is overrated as its effectiveness has been widely exaggerated.

The book offers a stage by stage approach in winning back your old flame. Once you go through it, you do not have to start figuring out where to start from or which step to take first. All you need to do is study the instructions in the book and follow them one after the other, just as they are enumerated in the book. Another striking feature of the book is that the tips it gives work for both sexes. Whether you are a man trying to win back the heart of your girl friend or vice-versa, you will find the tips therein very helpful.

It is believed that the first step to winning your ex back is to get over the emotional and psychological trauma that led to your break up and the one you suffered as a result of the break up. The book helps to expunge the pain from your mind first. Then, it also helps you to make the first making-up move. After expunging all the misunderstandings and pain from your mind, it also helps you to give your ex a clean slate. It makes you see your ex as a new person entirely. To illustrate the importance of this step, let us consider a guy who broke up with his girlfriend over the issue of infidelity. If he does not give his girlfriend a clean slate from the bottom of his heart, he will always keep suspecting the girl consciously, unconsciously or sub-consciously after making up. He may even find himself checking the girl's text messages behind her. It means the guy has welcomed her back with lack of trust. The danger in it lies in the fact that he may be doing it unconsciously.

The book also helps you to write a letter that can convince your ex to give you another chance. Apart from guiding you on how to write such letters, it also has an already written letter that can be re-worded or even developed. The letter is very helpful because it has some psychological blend.

The book is also said to come with a 60-day money-back guarantee. It means your money will be refunded if you follow the instructions strictly and you do not win back your ex within 60 days. However, some people have faulted the claim as being unrealistic because it is almost impossible to prove that you have applied the tips properly. Apart from that, the claim is said to exclude people whose ex has started dating someone else and people whose ex has gotten married to someone else.

While it worked like magic for some people, it did not help others. Some people say it does not offer any new information as all its tips are things every mature individual already knows. To strengthen the opinion of those that believe its money-back claim is unrealistic, none of the unsatisfied buyers of the book is known to have gotten a refund.

Magic of Making Up is a guide which contains exactly what to do and what to say to successfully your ex lover back in your arms. Over 50,000 people have used this guide and it successfully worked in getting their ex lover back. See more about it at Magic of Making Up Review.

Document Management in the Information Age

A document can be described as a written representation of thoughts, ideas and or experiences. On the other hand, a book can be described as a collection of logically related documents. Documents come in different flavors. Some of the different types of documents include: audio documents, video documents, literary documents. In this article my references to documents will be of the literary type. Books, journals, and webpages are some of the different types of documents available to users out there. With the wealth of information available today the need for a veritable means of searching for high quality documents is imperative!

There are different methods of searching for documents. Some of the traditional ways of searching for documents or information include: Searching for books in a Public Library; Borrowing books from friends/acquaintances; Searching for books in a book store; Using search engines; and lastly Using online book portals [Library 2.0]. With the advent of the internet came about a proliferation of information: As at 2010, according to Google, there were about 130 million books in the world; As at 2011 also, there are about 267 million websites across the globe. With the overabundance of information available at the click of a mouse, a number of questions arise: how does a user find high quality documents/books? How does a user search through documents/books are at a reasonable rate? How does a user compare similar documents/books? How does a user collect documents/books? How does a user copy books/documents?

The traditional methods of information search [libraries etc.] have become deficient; a lot of the desires that book lovers all over the world want are left unfulfilled. The traditional search engines [Google e.t.c] do a better job by filtering a lot of the information for the user; however like an ex, they still leave the book lover yearning for what was missing. With unfair SEO tactics, machine based ranking of information, and other flaws, how does a user truly get to high quality content from a commercial search engine?

The concept of online book portals is the water needed to quench the fire of the relentless book lover in the search for unbiased high quality information. With book portals, collecting, preserving, organizing, selecting, bookmarking and disseminating books is a lot more convenient and a lot easier for the internet savvy user. Unfortunately, like any new ardor, there are some areas for improvement. Copyrighting issues and a lack of one primary e-book format are some of the challenges the online book portal space faces.
